National Geographic Certified Educator!

Exciting Times! I have now finished the 3 month National Geographic Certified Educator Program! Our capstone project called "What items do we waste each day: How can we stop debris and contaminates from entering our local watershed?" received an evaluation of "Exemplary" in all 5 categories of certification, and will be featured on the educator site! It was wonderful way to engage students locally and it inspired all students to take action to make a positive change change within our school and community.

When students were asked how they demonstrated the learning outcomes, or what their next step would be, this is what they said:

"I would go global and try to make a difference, and I would make a club that would go pick up garbage around the world." (Grade 5 student)

"I was connected to being outside with the breezy fresh air and curious when I saw that the moose was using our trail." (Grade 6 student)

"My next step would be to get a group of people together and staff picking up garbage around the community." (Grade 6 student)

And a parent commented:

"(Student) was super excited when she realized she could actually make a difference influencing others in regards to helping our Earth."

We will continue to use the National Geographic Learning Framework in all our studies.
