Chalk Art!

Original post, June 2024: The sun was shining, and using inspiration from Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood written by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and Illustrated by Rafael Lopez, the students brought colour to our Nukko Lake sidewalks! A huge shoutout goes to the Two River's Gallery for providing our class with a copy of this beautiful book, and a mini lesson prior to gallery leaders coming out to our school. What impressed me so much as a teacher, and an artist, was how dedicated and respectful each student was in our class to their work, and towards the work of others. Chalk on concrete is a difficult medium, and not only did students stay focused, not one student switched into silly "graffiti mode" and I was proud to showcase the dedication and maturity my students had towards adding a little extra beauty to our Nukko Lake Community school.
